Hospitals & Schools Community Visits
Kita Therapy Community Visits
Kita Therapy’s community visits are designed to support patients in a meaningful way. These sessions help participants apply the skills and strategies gained from speech and music therapy across different environments and situations. We visit schools, homes, and a range of other settings in communities across our service area, reaching positive outcomes for all participants.
Community-based training is so important, and it offers a unique opportunity to integrate therapy into situations participants may experience as they go about their daily lives in Australia.
What Is Generalisation of Skills and Why Is It Important?
Generalisation allows individuals to recognise the broad benefits of the skills acquired in therapy and then to transfer this into a range of real-world contexts. It helps patients develop independent learning skills and makes it easier to achieve profound changes in the long term.
What Services Does Kita Therapy Offer at the Community Level?
Our community visits offer therapeutic services that foster rehabilitation, learning, social integration, and future development, along with a variety of other therapy outcomes.
The services our therapists provide include:
- Screening, diagnosis, and assessment of a number of impairments, working to understand the communication problems that may impact quality of life
- Referring patients to other health professionals, such as clinical psychologists, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists, as needed
- Providing guidance and training to the parents, trainers, and teachers on the following:
– Alternative communication methods
– Behavioural and speech developmental milestones for children
– Language acquisition and speech fluency techniques
- Providing community music therapy services for children and adults — these therapy sessions are done either individually or in group settings
- Community speech therapy home visits for members who cannot reach community health centres or speech therapy hospitals
- Training and talks at the community centres
Generalising Therapeutic Goals — Key Methods
Meaningful generalisation empowers patients to use their acquired skills in any given context or environment. Generalisation supports vocabulary building and the development of conversational skills during the speech and language therapy session.
Patients in music therapy can develop focus, concentration, awareness, and confidence, among other fundamental interpersonal skills. This can make all the difference for speech and music therapy patients who have received support in a behaviour-specific context.
The methods we use in our community visits include:
Continuous Learning
We deliver speech and music therapy across a set schedule, supporting continuous learning and development in environments that make patients feel comfortable. Acquiring new skills becomes simple and straightforward.
Working Across Different Contexts
We tailor our speech and language therapies to different contexts, enabling our participants to develop a rich understanding of how to use what they have learned, and a profound confidence across a variety of situations.
Learning Functional Behaviour
Our community visits aim to teach skills and behaviour that patients will need in their everyday life, with reinforcement from their natural environment.
Drawing Upon a Range of Teaching Capabilities
Our community visits involve a diverse team, bringing together multiple therapeutic professionals to achieve the right outcomes for patients here in Australia. This is enhanced by the community setting and the presence of family and loved ones — adding to the effectiveness of our speech and behavioural therapy sessions.
What Are the Travelling Charges for Our Community Visits?
We do charge travel fees for our community visits, based on the distance between the clinic and the community location.
